This year, the assigned event coordinator will take a count once during the event to capture an accurate number. , B - Larry Novotny - Larry also performs under the open pavilion at our Outstanding Senior Citizen/Century Farm/Farm Family of the Year Event. This is a more static attendance and includes friends and families of the recipients along with other interested community members. Larry usually stays after the event for as long as people are walking by/stopping to visit and listen. Last year's event is estimated to have drawn 100 participants. This year, the assigned event coordinator will take a count once during the event to try and capture an accurate number. , C - Doug Traxler - Doug is our musical performer on Thursday night of the fair. Three 4-H shows happen this day. The talent show and the corn feed occur as well, so there are a lot of people on the grounds. Doug performs near the food and beverage area. It is estimated that 300 people attend this event. This year, event coordinators will do an estimated head count twice during the event and get an average attendance., D - The Big Ideas Trailer's proposed outcome is to have participants visit the trailer and use the interactive simulators. Since it is a controlled environment with door entry and exit an exact count can be obtained. This is our first year offering the event so we don't have an average from previous experience. Trees usually die as a result of infestation and an unprecedented outbreak in the west is currently decimating pine forests there. While mountain pine beetle is not presently believed to reside in Minnesota, there are risks posed by an expanding species range resulting from warming climate and the potential for accidental introduction via lumber imports from infested areas. It is estimated that Minnesota currently has about 200 million trees that would be susceptible to mountain pine beetle if it should become established here and loss of those trees would threaten wildlife habitat, water quality protection, and recreation. Researchers at the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture are using this appropriation to survey state locations for the presence of mountain pine beetle and to characterize the risk posed by the insect to Minnesota pine species. If detected early enough isolated populations of mountain pine beetle may be possible to control and a better understanding of how Minnesota’s particular pine species might react to the insect would guide future management response strategies.",,http://www.lccmr.leg.mn/projects/2014/work_plans/2014_04e2.pdf,2014-07-01,2017-06-30,"Environment & Natural Resources Trust Fund",Completed,,,Mark,Abrahamson,"Minnesota Department of Agriculture","625 Robert St N","St. Paul",MN,55108,"(651) 201-6505",mark.abrahamson@state.mn.us,,"Minnesota Department of Agriculture",,"Aitkin, Anoka, Becker, Beltrami, Benton, Carlton, Cass, Chisago, Clearwater, Cook, Crow Wing, Fillmore, Houston, Hubbard, Isanti, Itasca, Kanabec, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Mower, Olmsted, Otter Tail, Pine, Polk, Ramsey, Roseau, Sherburne, St. Louis, Stearns, Todd, Wabasha, Wadena, Washington, Winona",,,http://www.legacy.mn.gov/projects/mountain-pine-beetle-invasive-threat-minnesotas-pines-2,,,, 21729,"Rice County Fair New Arts and Heritage Open Class Building",2013,50000,"Laws of MN, Article 4, Section 10","These amounts are appropriated to the commissioner of agriculture for grants to county agricultural societies to enhance arts access and education and to preserve and promote Minnesota's history and cultural heritage as embodied in its county fairs.
